Success in 2018 begins now!

With the calendar about ready to turn over to 2018, now is the time for farm operations to begin planning for 2018. One of the key components to a successful 2018 is planning ahead and making sure your equipment is performing to the best of its abilities, with an inspection and any necessary repairs from your local Straub service department. Over the years our winter parts & service program has grown substantially with many operations participating on a regular basis, with Axial Flow combines being the number one product line that we work on during the winter and spring months, but often times operations fail to consider their other equipment, resulting in in-season breakdowns.

Planting Season

It is critical for good yields to get your fall crops in the ground at the proper time next spring. Weather always seems to be a factor in causing delays, and you can’t afford additional downtime with machine breakdowns. Make sure your planting tractor, along with your planter &/or drill, are thoroughly inspected this winter. Planter and drill components are ground engaging tools and are obviously very prone to wear. Taking risks on too worn of components will most likely cost your much more in the long run with lower yields next fall, if the seed is not properly placed in the ground.

Haying Season

Unfortunately, we often see hay tools as the most neglected machines in regards to winter maintenance, and it can show during the summer haying months. Hay may not be your biggest crop, but caring for your baler or swather this winter will reap you considerable benefits come June and July. It not only your belting and pickup teeth on your baler, but make sure your chains, sprockets, bearings are all in good condition, as well. Our parts departments can assist you with finding the rights parts, if you would happen to choose to do your own inspections are repairs.

Small Grains and Row Crop Harvesting

As mentioned earlier, Axial Flow combines tend to be the primary focus of winter service repair, and for good reason. But, with the growing popularity of draper headers over the last several years, we are now seeing enough acres on them to better understand that they very much need to be inspected and brought up to date on a regular basis, just as the combines they are mounted to. Over the past few years we have seen large scale failures, especially in the center drum area, as the acres piled up on units, without regular maintenance on them. If you own a draper header and haven’t ever had it inspected, now is the time to do it. Call your local Straub service manager to schedule an inspection, whether it is a Case IH 2000 Series head (built by MacDon) or a MacDon branded model. We send our service techs to MacDon service training each winter, so you can be assured to get proper service on it.

Remember, participating in the Straub winter parts and service program will not only minimize downtime and increase your crop yields, but can also very well protect yourself, your family, and those that work for you. Decreasing the chance of in-season failures also decreases the chances of your operation having to work on your equipment in less than ideal conditions, in the frantic rush of planting or harvesting.

We appreciate the business you have done with our dealership this year and look forward to assisting your operation in 2018.
